The Buskers Ball was established in its present form about eight years ago by singer/songwriter Alec Martin.

We aim to promote songwriting throughout north-west England by holding a series of pub-based 'open mike' sessions where anyone can get up and perform to an audience without the restrictions put on by some of the more traditional folk clubs. If you look at our hitlist, you'll see that music of all styles has been performed at the Ball, from zydeco through to country through to out and out rock and blues!

We have released a highly successful sampler album, performed at Manchester's 'In The City' festival, are members of Bolton Arts Forum, and organise the highly respected annual North West Songwriting Competition...indeed we have been at the forefront of the new acoustic revival that is undoubtedly taking place throughout the UK.

Enough said, have a look round the site, or better still turn up at one of our sessions. A PA is provided as is an appreciative audience!

You may have noticed a new feature on the left...What went Wrong? Well its for all you people who were in a band that never made it. Set off for the rock and roll hall of fame and got lost somewhere on the M61. We think its quite funny...why not send us details of your most embarrasing music moments and you'll finally be immortalised forever!

We host the annual North West Songwriting Competition, which attracts entries from all over the region. Prizes usually include recording time, gigs, musical instruments and a place on our annual cd album. See 'NEWS'page for further details. We are now taking entries for this years competition!

Our first cd album "Out of Oblivion" is now out, featuring 17 original tracks by fourteen of our regular artists

We now have a noticeboard which you can use to announce your gig, sell equipment or whatever. If you have something to announce just go to NOTICEBOARD and find out more!
